One of the greatest early Pretenders singles, "Talk of the Town" (named after a real London nightclub) brilliantly fused Chrissie Hynde's influences, from the Byrds-like twang of the suspended, ringing electric guitar riff, to the pleading vocal delivery, which contained all of the passion of Brit singers Sandie Shaw and Dusty Springfield, who were no doubt her heroes.
